Pickles

Ohhhh why oh why isn't it summer so I can go to the market and actually find cucumbers for pickling, you guys have caused me to grow the balls to actually try pickling once and for all, sadly I'll have to wait it out until the summer since after all February isn't cucumber season in Ontario. Nick Horman seems like the coolest pickle-man in the world.

Weirdest/BEST Pickles Ever: Watermelon Rind Pickles!  My mom used to make them every summer, after, of course, she bought a watermelon and chopped it up.  She'd peel off the green part and make really sweet pickles from the white part.  I'm willing to bet the recipe is in the Double Day Cookbook, since that's like her cooking bible!  SOOOO amazing with (tofu) hot dogs in summer!

what about pickled banana wax peppers I have some from my garden I want to pickle!And more detailed instructions would be nice.. my hubby loves pickles and I want to make them but I didn't quite catch everything.

I had some pickled turnips at the local arabic restraunt a while ago. They were bright pink and spicy. So good. I haven't tried to make them yet, but I plan to.

Also, I want to marry that pickle man.

I know there's a difference, but I'm too sure, what it is between a gherkin and a pickle? Is it the size or just where they come from?

Anyway, my Nana used to make pickled onions when my mum was pregnant and she used to eat jars and jars of them which has, in turn turned my blood into about 90% spirit vinegar :D

I used to like pickles when I was young...Still Do!  Keep up the good work!

I love love love anything pickled! My great grandma used to pickle anything so I grew up around homemade pickles and other such goodies!

Hey guys, discovered your videos a couple weeks ago when I was home sick and now I've made it a habit of checking out the weekly update.  In this video I noticed that your sugar was labeled in French :) I'm American, living in Paris for about 4 years now, and one thing I love about watching your videos is seeing the American farmers markets.  I have been to markets in Boston, MA and Oakland, CA - I think it's funny how the original "inspiration" for such a market is based on the European model, but I actually think the American markets are so much more fun!  More laid back, less push-and-shove like what we see in Paris.  Anyway, keep up the good work! (and I can't wait to see what you'll do with that sauerkraut!)

I love pickling! I recently did a batch of fruit ketchup (tomatoes, peaches, apples, pears, peppers ...) and it actually turn out great, sweet and sour. I thing it a nice way to use fresh fruits and vegetables want the summer is ending.

pickles that bite back, garlicky and sour, bright green and crunchy, that's what I'm thinkin' about. And I'd love to try the pickles Nick describes as going nicely with havarti cheese.
