Florida Lunch: Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich & Citrus Salad

OH MAN! That looks totally delicious, but I'm sure that any citrus that I found in Boston wouldn't even compete. Guess I need to take a road trip! I've never even had a Pommelo - what does it taste like?

In the east coast of Canada (the maritimes) my favourite sandwich is mostly lobster meat (fresh shelled) mixed with a tiny bit of mayo, salt, pepper and served in a hot dog bun (grilling optional).

In Montreal - it has to be the Montreal Steak Sandwich - thin slices of steak sandwich (spiced with Montreal Steak Spice) freshly grilled, then layered on the freshly grilled bread and melted cheese, cold lettuce & tomatoes. It's topped with French dressing. The cheese should be melt-y, the beef hot, the salad and the bread crunchy.

Loved seeing the Capt. Brian's sign and the sweet Amish ladies behind the register at Overholt's produce stand. Sarasota is a smallish town but blessed to have some good, local and ethnic specialty food purveyors. You did a great job with the mahi mahi (too bad the spectators didn't get a taste!!) and the little lake behind our house looked positively splendid with the wcf's master videographer behind the camera. Thanks for another mouth-watering episode and good info. for making informed choices on seafood.

ive got a nice hunk of yellowtail in the fridge, any suggestions? (not sushi quality so hamachi is out). wild caught florida shrimp are delish--last nite marinated in fresh lime juice, 2 tsp sesame oil, dash of cayenne, 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger, 2 medium cloves garlic minced and 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds; 1/2 hour in the marinade then on a 400 degree grill for about three minutes per side. really good.

As a Sarasotan, I love that you went to Captain Brian's -- my fave fish market (and restaurant for a fresh fish dinner that aren't offered at stratospheric prices. And once again you come through with a fab meal at a "working class" price:  even at Capt. Brian's, a fish sandwich costs nearly twice this much -- and doesn't have a fresh local citrus salad as a side. Keep up the great cooking!

Oh... that sammich looks reeeeaally good right about now. I've been craving fish lately - I think I'll make something tonight.

I am still researching what the best foods local to where I live are! Still new to that part of sustainable eating. I know there are apple orchards nearby (went apple picking/pumpking getting in the fall) but unfortunately I don't think they are organic.

But the Market downtown in my city has a lot of produce, jams, honeys, meat and maple syrup (go Canada) that is farmed out in the country just outside town and most seem to be mostly organic too. Score! The best thing I've found recently is lavender jelly.

Lobster is on the top of my menu!! My Mom and Dad were lobster fishermen when i was growing up. I don't think there was a week or two that went by that we didn't have steamed lobster for supper, or creamed lobster.  I"m not really one for all the dressings and extras that most people use when cooking. I love lobster right out of the shell nothing else needed, and the only thing i need with mussels is a little melted butter for dipping. Only had sword fish once and it was amazing! but fresh tuna is a little to fishy for me.

i'm not much of a fish eater, but this sandwich had my mouth watering! looks delish, great job once again guys!

Swordfish also has nasty hook worms that are hard to clean out.
